Both parties must be present to apply for a Marriage License. If you are over the age of eighteen (18) you must bring two forms of identification.

The first form of identification you both are required to bring is your Social Security Card or Resident Alien Card.

The second form of identification shall be one of the following:

• Valid Driver's License
• Valid Highway Department Identification
• Certified Copy of your Birth Certificate
• Military Identification
• Passport

If persons who are applying have been divorced within the last six (6) months, they will need to bring a copy of their divorce decree.

Under Age Applicants

If either party is between the ages of sixteen (16) and eighteen (18) you must bring a Certified Copy of your Long Form Birth Certificate issued by the State and a parent or guardian must accompany the minor and give consent. The parent will need to present a picture identification. If the parents of the minor are divorced, a certified copy of a court order will need to be presented showing legal custody.

Applicants are required to pay a $45.00 fee, CASH ONLY when they apply. There is a 24-hour waiting period before either one of the applicants can return to pickup the marriage license during office hours. You must have your receipt in order to pick up the marriage license. You do not have to be a resident of this state to apply for a marriage license, but the ceremony must be performed in South Carolina by ministers of the Gospel, accepted Jewish Rabbis, or officers authorized to administer oaths in South Carolina (Notary Public). Marriage Ceremonies

The Probate Judge will perform Marriage Ceremonies in her office by appointment only during office hours. The fee for the Ceremony is $25.00 payable in CASH at the time of the Ceremony. You may schedule an appointment when you apply for the license or you may call at a later date to schedule to be married by the Probate Judge.

THE MARRIAGE LICENSE CANNOT BE MAILED TO YOU. SOMEONE WILL NEED TO PICK UP THE LICENSE FROM THE COURT DURING REGULAR OFFICE HOURS AFTER THE 24-HOUR WAITING PERIOD.
