The Lancaster County Fire Service is comprised of 19 volunteer fire departments and one career department. The majority of firefighters in Lancaster County are volunteers. The Lancaster County Fire Service is dedicated to serving the citizens of Lancaster County by protecting lives, property, and the environment from fire, disasters, and emergency incidents.

The Lancaster County Fire Commission controls county funding to all fire departments. The Fire Commission makes decisions on funding based on information and requests from all fire departments. Decisions and requests rendered by the Fire Commission are coordinated through the Fire Commission Office located at 208 West Gay Street in Lancaster, South Carolina.
